Comet 2 (EN-B+)

Released in 2014

Axis Comet 2 high end EN-B glider suitable for intermediate pilots and pilots starting XC flying. Axis Comet 2 has optimal balance of performance and passive safety.

Axis Comet 2 has been designed as a thin ellipse with a relatively high aspect ratio of 5,7 which guarantees a very high glide ratio. Axis team achieved line consumption by 40% compared to its predecessor Axis Comet.

These parametres combined with a new revolutionary leading edge shape (APS system) and the new speed system ensures that the new Comet 2 has the maximum speed around 57 km/h. The method of optimum pressurized leading edge – APS is used on Axis glider for the very first time. APS system provides a high resistence against collapse of the canopy, especially at maximum speed. The forces in the speed bar are also reduced by 40% compared to Axis Comet.

The breakes are newly equipped with “Power steering” taken from our competition glider Axis Mercury Sport. This allows for more effective breakes with less power needed to breake. Breake forces still remain progressively increasing!

MATERIALS

  • Top surface – Skytex 38g/m²
  • Bottom surface – Skytex 38g/m²
  • Internal Structure – Skytex 38g/m²
  • Lines – Ø 0.5 to 1.4mm of Dyneema and Vectran from Liros and Cousin Trestec
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
Although the Comet 2 is touching the performance of EN C gliders, the passive safety and piloting remains in the middle of EN B class. Axis Comet 2 is not an EN C wing, which accidentally passed the EN B class tests. Axis Comet 2 is a wing with performance of EN C gliders, but with passive safety of EN B gliders.
