Vega 5 (EN-C)

The new sport EN C glider, designed for moderately experienced XC pilots. Suitable for flying in competitions, where category “sport” is listed.

Vega 5 but paradoxically does not come from its predecessor Vega 4, but is a completely new design. While constructing Vega 5, we used all the experience we have gained in developing a highly successful competition special Mercury sport, and also used all the latest technologies that are in the high-end glider Venus 4. As a result, Vega 5 is very safe and stable glider on the boundary of EN-B / EN-C, but with performance which is usual to one to two categories above!

CONSTRUCTION

Vega 5 is narrow slightly asymmetrical ellipse (aspect ratio 6.2), where the leading edge has a larger radius than the trailing edge. The front part of the profile is equipped with an APS (some also call it as “shark nose”), which enables stable inflation of canopy at all angles of attack. The shape of the upper front pannels have been optimized using 3D modeling (called 3D shapping) for cleaner leading edge.

Using the mini ribs at the trailing edge for better direction of flow of the outgoing airflow – reducing secondary turbulence, which in turn reduces the overall resistance of the canopy, thus contributing to higher glide ratio / has already been a standard feature for Axis wings. Lines layout is pure three-line structure (ie, without the use of D-lines attachments). This solution, along with linear distribution of the lines along the span, has enabled us to greatly reduce the consumption of lines, which also contributes significantly to relatively high maximum speed. Vega 5 is also equipped with high efficiency speed-system, which is constructed on risers with very thin front cross section.

MATERIALS USED

Axis Vega 5 glider is made entirely from SKYTEX® fabric of French manufacturer Porcher Sport (although not the cheapest, but the best canopy material in the world). The bottom of the canopy is SKYTEX 32, specification E3H (32 g / m2), the top of the canopy is SKYTEX 38, specification E25A (38 g / m2). Suspended ribs and A + B diagonals are produced from Skytex 40 (E29A), non-suspended ribs and C diagonal are from SKYTEX 32 (E4H). Front part of the profile is reinforced with polypropylene struts with a diameter of 2mm. In the upper and middle gallery are used unsheated lines of diameters from 0.5 to 0.9 mm, the bottom (main) are sheated lines of diameters ranging from 1.0 to 1.6 mm. Risers are made from Cousin Trestec webbing of 12mm width, which are inside reinforced with Kevlar mesh.
